There are many famous last names in the NFL: Manning, Montana, Elway, Marino, and Brees are synonymous with football history. Arguably, the most recognizable name is Brady.

Quarterback Tom Brady won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots as part of a dynasty that spanned from 2000-19. The future Hall of Famer went on to win yet another Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.

Another Brady has started popping up on coaching staffs around the league. Joe Brady started coaching in college and has made his way to the NFL. Let's meet the new Brady and explain his connection to Tom.

Once Joe graduated, he became the William & Mary linebackers coach in 2013. He served as a graduate assistant at Penn State in 2015-16 and then as an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints in 2017-18. Joe's first big coaching job was as the LSU Tigers' passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach in 2019. He was there when LSU won the national championship and quarterback Joe Burrow won the Heisman.

Joe didn't have to wait long to get back in the NFL. He was hired as the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator in 2020 and held the role for two years. He then joined the Buffalo Bills in 2022 and, over the past three seasons, has served as the quarterbacks coach, interim offensive coordinator, and offensive coordinator.

Tom Brady career stats

Tom was born in San Mateo, Calif., in 1977. The Montreal Expos baseball team drafted him as a catcher, but he declined the selection and opted to play football for the Michigan Wolverines.

It ended up likely being the right decision. After a 23-year playing career, Brady is considered the best quarterback of all time and has the record for the most Super Bowl wins by a player. Since retiring (for the second time), Brady has moved to the broadcast booth and has started a new career endeavor.

Along with all of his Super Bowl rings, Tom has the NFL record for games started, quarterback record, pass attempts, passing completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns in a career. He is also a three-time MVP and 15-time Pro Bowler.

Are Joe and Tom Brady related?

Despite having the same last name, Joe and Tom are not related. Surely, since they are both Bradys, you would find a link if you go back far enough, but no, they are not closely related.
