Since sustaining a foot injury that caused him to sit out the end of the 2022 season in San Francisco, Jimmy Garoppolo has continued to experience setbacks that keep him from attaining his former glory.
His career with the 49ers ended after that campaign, and he was signed by Las Vegas in March 2023. After his first year with the Raiders in which he lost his starting spot midway through the season to Aidan O'Connell, news came out that Garoppolo would be suspended for Weeks 1 and 2 of the 2024 regular season.
The quarterback was let go by the Raiders in March 2024 despite signing a three-year, $67.5 million contract with the team just a year earlier. It wasn't long before Garoppolo was inking a deal with the Rams, though, where he signed on to back up veteran Matthew Stafford.
Here's everything to know about Garoppolo's suspension, including why the Rams backup quarterback is sitting out the team's first two games after violating a PED policy.

Why is Jimmy Garoppolo suspended?
In mid-February when he was still with the Raiders, the quarterback was suspended by the league for the first two games of the 2024 season for violating the performance-enhancing drugs policy of the league and NFL Players Association.
After he was released by Las Vegas and subsequently signed by the Rams, he addressed the situation in his introductory press conference in Los Angeles.
"Just messed up the TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption), really," he said. "Just messed up the TUE when I first got to Las Vegas. Just bad timing, I guess."
The TUE is a waiver players can receive that essentially allows them to access treatment that falls under the league's PED policy while continuing to compete. The timeline given coincides with when Garoppolo received treatment for the injury at the end of the 2022 season with the 49ers, when he was eventually replaced by Brock Purdy.
It appears that whatever treatment he was undergoing fell outside the window given in his waiver, which is what penalized him in the end.
Jimmy Garoppolo contract
Less than a week after he was released by the Raiders in March, Garoppolo signed a 1-year, $3,178,750 contract with the Los Angeles Rams, per Spotrac. The 33-year-old joins a quarterback room featuring starter Stafford and fellow backup Stetson Bennett.

In his single-season stint with the Raiders, Garoppolo began the 2023 campaign as the team's starting quarterback, reuniting with then-Vegas head coach Josh McDaniels, who was the offensive coordinator while he was with the Patriots.
However, after going 3-5 through the first eight contests, McDaniels was fired and Garoppolo was benched for the rest of the season save a brief appearance in the team's final contest of the year.
Here's a look at how the veteran performed while in Sin City.
