Jim Irsay health update: Colts say owner is recovering from 'respiratory illness' after being found unconscious in his home image

Colts owner Jim Irsay was found unresponsive at home in December, per a police report.

The news of the police report comes after the Colts announced earlier this month that Irsay was being treated for "a severe respiratory illness" that has kept him away from the team.

Here's what to know about Irsay's health.

Emergency responders were dispatched to Irsay's home at 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 8, according to a Carmel Police Department report obtained by Indianapolis' Fox 59.

Responders were called in to help a man who "was unresponsive, breathing, but turning blue." That man was Irsay, who, according to the report, had fallen in the bathroom before being moved to a nearby bed.

Irsay received Narcan from police responders, which is used to counteract the effects of opiate overdose. Irsay had "a slight response" to that treatment, per Fox 59. Officers classified the incident involving Irsay as a suspected overdose.

Irsay has been open about his past struggles with addiction. He has been to rehab at least 15 times and nearly died of an overdose at least once before, he has said.

The owner of the Indianapolis NFL franchise hasn't been seen in public in weeks. Earlier in January, the team said in a statement that Irsay was being treated for "a severe respiratory illness" and was "receiving excellent care."

In a statement Wednesday, the team asked for privacy as Irsay continues his recovery.

"Mr. Irsay continues to recover from his respiratory illness," the team said. "We will have no further comment on his personal health, and we continue to ask that Jim and his family's privacy be respected."

The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
