One of the biggest questions that remains for the Cowboys this season is whether the team will reach a new deal for star players Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones provided an update Friday, explaining that the franchise is still working through negotiations for both the quarterback and wide receiver.

"We are just where we were and where we’ve been — and that is we don’t have anything done, but how close we are to getting it done is really not identifiable. Because it takes two and takes the will of two looking at it from two different perspectives," Jones said (via The Dallas Morning News).

"You never know what that is. And the other one never knows where that is until it’s actually done. We are continuing to operate. Continuing — and I mean that not as some type of complaint at all, but both parties are continuing to operate as though we are going to get something done at some point."

The Cowboys were optimistic they would be able to reach a new deal with Prescott before Week 1, but that didn't happen. Prescott has stated that his focus is on taking care of business on the field first.

Prescott, 26, exceeded expectations to start the season, leading the Cowboys to a 3-0 start but they have since fallen to 4-3. He's sported a 70.6 completion rate to go with 2,123 yards and 12 touchdowns with seven interceptions in seven games this season.

ESPN reported last month that Cooper, on the other hand, is less likely to re-sign this season. The report added that the Cowboys want Cooper in Dallas and the receiver wants to be there, but Cooper is taking a patient approach.

Cooper, 25, has 38 catches for 621 yards and five touchdowns in seven games this season.

The Cowboys travel to New York to face the Giants (2-5) on Monday with kickoff set for 8:15 p.m. ET.
