According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Giants will use the franchise tag on defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul if the two sides can't agree on a long-term deal by March 2.

During the NFL Combine, Giants GM Jerry Reese said the two sides were talking, but wouldn't say much more than that.

"It's really not appropriate to really talk about where we are in respect to that, but we are talking," he said via NJ.com.

Coach Tom Coughlin said the goal for Pierre-Paul is "for him to be a Giant and play as a Giant forever, and retire as a Giant." In order to do that, it appears the team will have to use the franchise tag. This will cost the team about $15 million for the 2015 season.

It also means the two sides can continue negotiations until July.
