Jake Scott, Super Bowl MVP for the legendary 1972 Miami Dolphins team that went undefeated, has died aged 75.

Scott passed away after suffering head injuries in a fall and being taken to hospital in Atlanta.

He played six of his nine NFL seasons with the Dolphins, winning a pair of Super Bowl titles with Miami.

The first of those came in Super Bowl VII as the Dolphins capped a historic season with a 14-7 victory over the Washington Redskins, clinching a 14-0 unbeaten record.

To date, no team has since gone through an entire NFL regular season and playoff campaign without losing a game.

Free safety Scott earned the game's MVP award for recording two interceptions, one of which he returned 55 yards from his own endzone in the fourth quarter.

Scott won another Super Bowl title with the Dolphins as they successfully defended their title in the following season, recording a pair of fumble recoveries in a 24-7 Super Bowl VIII win over the Minnesota Vikings.

He spent his final three seasons with the Redskins, retiring after the 1978 campaign.

Scott was named to the Pro Bowl six times in his career and remains the Dolphins' all-time leader in interceptions with 35.
