Eagles coach Nick Sirianni made a bold call at the end of regulation in the Eagles' Week 12 game against the Bills. Facing a fourth-and-17 and trailing 31-28, he sent his kicker Jake Elliott out to attempt a 59-yard field goal.
The kick was within Elliott's range. The long-time Eagle has one of the most powerful and accurate legs in the NFL, so under normal circumstances, the decision would have been a no-brainer.
However, the weather in Philadelphia on Sunday was not good. It rained for the majority of the contest, leaving the field in less-than-ideal shape for a kick of that length.
Still, Sirianni opted to kick it from there, and Elliott rewarded his faith. He made the 59-yard kick with ease through the wind and the rain to help force overtime. The Eagles would go on to win 37-34 thanks to a walk-off Jalen Hurts touchdown.

Elliott was asked about his success in late-game kicking situations — he is 8 for 8 on game-tying or go-ahead field goals in the final two minutes of regulation or overtime in his career, per ESPN's Stats & Info — after the game. He attributed it to his experience in those high-pressure situations.
"Those are the situations I've always thrived in," he told reporters. "Going back to high school and college, I feel like I've been put in those situations quite a bit. For whatever reason, I really like those situations. Feel an extra boost of confidence."

Elliott also acknowledged that the kick was the most difficult that he has made in his career given the conditions he faced during it.

But was it the longest kick of Elliott's career? Here's what to know about his longest career kicks.
Jake Elliott's longest field goal
Elliott's make against the Bills may have been the best of his career, but it wasn't his longest. Elliott has made multiple 61-yard field goals during his career.
One came during his rookie season in 2017. The Eagles and Giants were tied at 24-all with one second left when the Eagles opted to let Elliott have a go at the 61-yard kick. He made it to set a new franchise record.

The second came during Week 2 of the 2023 NFL season. Elliott made a 61-yard boot just before halftime to extend the Eagles' lead over the Vikings to six points.

So, suffice to say that Elliott has a knack for making kicks from both long distances and in clutch situations as time expires. His 59-yard field goal checks both boxes, but it will stand as just his third-longest career kick behind these two gems.

What is the longest kick in NFL history?
The longest field goal in NFL history belongs to Justin Tucker. The Ravens kicker made a 66-yard field goal to beat the 19-17 Lions in Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season. The kick passed through the uprights after bouncing off the crossbar as time expired.
