The Jacksonville Jaguars' efforts to free up salary cap space this offseason continued Thursday as the team released veteran cornerback Will Blackmon.

The eight-year NFL veteran started 12 games in his two seasons in Jacksonville. The Jags are betting that second-year corner Aaron Colvin — who missed most of his rookie season while recovering from ACL surgery — will provide a lower-cost, quality replacement for Blackmon.

According to NFL.com, Blackmon’s release frees up $920,000 in salary cap space. The Jaguars are expected to be busy in the free agent market when it opens next month.

The 30-year-old Blackmon sent out a farewell tweet Thursday thanking fans (or technically, he thanked #Duval, the county in which Jacksonville is located).
