Tom Brady wants to be heavier to start 2019.

NFL Network reported last month the 41-year-old quarterback was looking to “bulk up” this offseason. Brady felt he lost “strength” last season, a report from NFL Network’s Mike Giardi revealed Wednesday.

Giardi reported:

“He wants to get to 232, 233 pounds to start the season because he felt like he lost a little too much weight and strength as last year progressed. Brady, constantly tinkering with that workout, feels like he’s going to maintain that pliability, but he wants to start at a little bit of a higher point.”

Brady completed 65.8% of his passes and threw for 29 touchdowns, along with 11 interceptions, in 16 games for the Patriots last season. He added 953 yards and two more scores in the playoffs as New England went on to win the Super Bowl.

Giardi added:

“Mentally, he’s also in great shape right now. ... He feels very appreciated by the organization. That was something he was not necessarily feeling about 15 months ago after the loss to the Eagles. It’s funny what winning a Super Bowl will do for you.”

Brady has made 14 Pro Bowls, been named MVP three times and won six Super Bowls during his 19-year career.
