A former high-ranking NFL official poured gas on the fire that was a game-changing fumble call late in Sunday’s Jacksonville Jaguars-Kansas City Chiefs game.
Mike Pereira, now a rules analyst with Fox Sports, contradicted the game officials' statement that the still frame replay isn’t available to them in the wake of a controversial fourth-quarter fumble call on Jaguars running back Chris Ivory.

“Of course replay uses still frames. There are times when you do use it — a sideline catch, is the foot in bounds, is the toe on the line — you use freeze frames for that,” Pereira said on Fox Sports.
Officials ruled Ivory fumbled on second-and-goal at the 1-yard line as the ball came loose after he was hit by Chiefs lineman Jaye Howard.
Marcus Peters recovered the ball, and replay confirmed the call. The Chiefs won, 19-14.

Pereira, the former vice president of officiating for the NFL, said that there were times when still frame replay isn’t as helpful, but reiterated that it is an option.
“To me I think that it’s a touchdown, but they stayed with the call on the field,” he said. “The notion of not using freeze frame is ... obviously, it’s used very often.”
