Ellen DeGeneres shaves Julian Edelman's beard, uncovers 'very handsome' dude image

Patriots receiver and Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman has a confession: His signature beard is no fun come mealtime.

“Eating is a nightmare," he told Ellen DeGeneres when he sat down with her to discuss football, family and more. "I have to shower after I eat. But you know, sometimes you have something good (grabs his beard), flavor saver.”

It almost sounded as if he was … ready for a trim. And Ellen was happy to oblige, since the shave benefited the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

Once Ellen had the trimmer in hand, there was no looking back.

“I love you, beard," Edelman said. "It’s been a hell of a year.”

When the deed was done, Edelman sat with a giant hairball in his lap and DeGeneres assessed the new look: "You’re very handsome under all that stuff."

Here's an extended clip of Edelman's appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show":
