Dwayne Haskins is "looking forward to the future" with his soon to be re-named team after Washington announced the franchise was dropping the Redskins moniker.
Washington released a statement on Monday confirming the name Redskins, widely viewed as offensive to Native Americans, would be retired along with the team's logo.
It follows a review in the wake of protests after the death of George Floyd and pressure from high-profile sponsors.
Majority owner Dan Snyder and head coach Ron Rivera are working on a new name and design approach for the team.
Washington quarterback Haskins grew up in Potomac, Maryland, fewer than 30 miles from their FedEx Field home in Landover.
Reacting to the news he wrote on Twitter: "As a kid who grew up in the dmv [District of Columbia, Maryland & Virginia] it'll always be #HTTR [Hail to the Redskins] but looking forward to the future."
