Dolphins, receiver Jakeem Grant nearing four-year extension, report says image

Jakeem Grant appears ready to put down some roots in South Florida.

According to the Miami Herald, which cited an unidentified source, the Dolphins and the wide receiver are closing in on a four-year contract extension that will keep him in Miami through the 2023 season.

Grant, also a special teams ace, was entering the final year of his rookie deal and set to earn $720,000 in 2019.

Terms of the contract were not immediately available, though Grant is expected to garner a hefty raise.

Grant, 26, was selected by Miami out of Texas Tech in the sixth round of the 2016 draft. He has just 34 catches in those three seasons, scoring four touchdowns and averaging 13.9 yards per reception.

He's also logged 59 punt returns and 58 kickoff returns with three return touchdowns, including two last season.

Grant becomes the second member of Miami's 2016 draft class to receive a new deal after cornerback Xavien Howard signed a five-year extension worth $75.3 million with the Dolphins in May.
