Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Kendrick Norton's status has been upgraded from critical to stable, according to a report.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that Norton's condition was upgraded Thursday night.
Norton was involved in what the team described as "a serious car accident" overnight Wednesday into Thursday. The accident was so severe Norton underwent surgery to amputate his arm, his agent confirmed Thursday.
The team offered its "thoughts and prayers" to Kendrick and his family shortly after learning about the incident that reportedly involved multiple vehicles.

Early reports said Norton was transported to Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Norton starred in college at the University of Miami, and Hurricanes coach Manny Diaz tweeted Thursday morning about Norton: "The U family is praying for Kendrick, his family and the medical professionals helping him this morning." His well-wishes were followed by three praying-hands emoji.

The Dolphins claimed Norton off waivers from the Carolina Panthers in 2018. He was placed on Miami's 53-man roster and expected to compete for playing time this season along the defensive line.
The former collegiate standout was a seventh-round NFL Draft pick by the Panthers in 2018 after he had 84 tackles, 18 for loss, five sacks and a forced fumble over his three-year career at the University of Miami.
