Raiders quarterback Derek Carr may need surgery to repair an injury to the ring finger on his throwing hand, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports. The second-year quarterback remains "optimistic" he'll be ready for training camp, however.
Carr could miss the rest of organized team activities (OTAs), but a timeline for his return won't be set until he makes a decision on surgery. As of now, it doesn't seem likely Carr will miss any game action.

"Time missed in May is better than time missed in September," Raiders coach Jack Del Rio said Tuesday, via CSN Bay Area's Scott Bair. "You're often more capable of taking whatever time is necessary to make sure you put things behind you."
Christian Ponder is getting first-team reps while Carr is injured.
Carr, 24, started all 16 games last year as a rookie. He threw for 3,270 yards, with 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He completed 58.1 percent of his passes.
