Danny Ware left Georgia for the NFL after his sophomore year in college. Nine years later, Ware was back in Athens this week to attend graduation ceremonies after finishing his work on a degree in housing. But the celebration didn't go as planned.

Ware, who was on a pair of Super Bowl-winning teams with the Giants, was arrested early Wednesday and charged with DUI, possession of marijuana, reckless driving and speeding, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.

The 30-year-old former running back was released after posting a $4,500 bond. Graduation ceremonies are Friday.

Known as "D.J." during his time in the NFL, Ware spent five seasons in a reserve role with the Giants and one with the Buccaneers. He accumulated 375 rushing yards in his career and also saw time on special teams.

That his NFL career lasted as long as it did was something of a surprise considering his low profile coming out of college. After a year at a prep school, he had four 100-yard games as a freshman at Georgia in 2004 but tallied only 492 yards rushing as a sophomore before going pro.

Ware wasn't drafted but managed to stick with the Giants after the Titans signed him as a free agent and eventually cut him. He last played in the NFL in 2012.
