Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory has won his appeal of a 10-game suspension for substance abuse, but his status for the season is still uncertain.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Saturday that Gregory won the appeal of the suspension, which the NFL had handed out for Gregory's fifth violation of the league's substance abuse policy.

Yet Gregory still must start the season serving a four-game suspension for a previous violation. And his status beyond that is unclear, as the Star-Telegram reports that Gregory is still in a substance-abuse treatment facility. He checked into the facility in late July.
Even after Gregory finishes treatment, he has missed all of the preseason and would need to work himself back into playing condition.

Once considered a possible top-five pick in the 2015 draft, Gregory's draft status plummeted after he failed a drug test before the NFL Combine. The Cowboys selected him in the second round. Limited by an ankle sprain in his rookie season, he did not record a sack and had only 11 tackles in 12 games.
