Jason Garrett's job is secure.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones unexpectedly called into 105.3 The Fan to defend his head coach and assure he will remain in his position after the topic was brought up on the "Ben and Skin Show" on Wednesday.
"We've made several commitments and the reason it's not being talked about isn't because Jason is on shaky ground or isn't on solid ground," Jones said. "We're putting together different ideas and we don't want it to be a featured topic around the Super Bowl."
According to multiple reports though, the Cowboys have no plans to extend Garrett's contract when it runs out next season. At least not at this time.

In other Cowboys news, Kellen Moore was named Dallas' offensive coordinator, the team announced.
That move came nearly two weeks after the team mutually parted ways with former play-caller Scott Linehan.
The Cowboys also formally announced Thursday that Jon Kitna would take over Moore's previous role as quarterbacks coach.
Earlier Thursday, also on 105.3 The Fan, quarterback Dak Prescott praised Moore as a “genius phenom” on offense.
“He’s special,” Prescott said. “He knows a lot about the game, just the way he sees the game, the way he’s ahead of the game. He can bring a lot to us, a lot of creativity."
According to the Cowboys, Kitna, who played 15 years in the NFL, including two separate stints in Dallas, will work closely with Prescott.
Garrett, 52, is 77-59 in the regular season and 2-3 in the postseason in his nearly nine seasons at the helm in Dallas. He has one year remaining on his contract, though ESPN reports Jones is not expected to extend Garrett's deal.
