Parks in the Tampa are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that did not stop Tom Brady trying to get in some practice.

Florida is under a stay-at-home order from governor Ron DeSantis in a bid to delay the spread of COVID-19, which, according to the John Hopkins University, has infected over 27,000 people in the US state and resulted in 800 deaths.

Despite recreational grounds being shut off to the public, new Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Brady was spotted working out.

Tampa mayor Jane Castor said: "Our parks are closed down, so a lot of our parks staff, they patrol around just to make sure people aren't in there with contact sports and things.

"She went over to tell him that it was closed, and it was Tom Brady."

The NFL offseason programme was set to begin this week but teams are holding virtual sessions instead, with players expected to undertake additional training while following guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A tweet from the City of Tampa's official account read: "Sorry @TomBrady! Our @tampaparksrec team can't wait to welcome you and our entire community back with even bigger smiles – until then, stay safe and stay home as much as you can to help flatten the curve."

There have been almost 800,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States and more than 42,000 deaths.
