Colin Kaepernick: Minnesota Viking? It could have happened — kind of.

The former 49ers quarterback has continued his quest to get back to the NFL, first with a workout for the Seahawks earlier this offseason, then holding an open throwing session at the University of Michigan last weekend.

As it turns out, Kaepernick's name was bandied about in talks in a role on the Vikings coaching staff, according to ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio.

During Jim Harbaugh's interviews for the Vikings head coaching job earlier this offseason, Kaepernick's name was brought up as a potential fit for the quarterback coach role "if/when he decided to abandon his desire to play," Florio reports.

Florio also notes that Harbaugh's interesting request had no bearing on Harbaugh not getting the job in Minnesota. The opening was eventually filled by Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O'Connell.

Some reports indicated that Harbaugh was looking for "Jon Gruden-type money" — meaning 10 years and nine figures.

Harbaugh has remained as one of Kaepernick's staunchest allies, helping put together the workout for the passer at Michigan with NFL scouts in attendance.

For now, Kaepernick is still without an NFL job — but it's good to see at least one person is fighting for him to get back to the league.
