As controversy dogs Colin Kaepernick, a restaurant has called off at least one: a hot dog turned "political football" named in honor of the 49ers QB.

Main Street Footers — a restaurant in Turlock, Calif., Kaepernick's hometown — has pulled the CK7 (his initials and jersey number) from its menu after his decision to sit during the national anthem, USA Today reported.

"It was easier just to take the thing off the menu than go through the constant barrage," restaurant co-owner Glenn Newsum said Tuesday. "We’re just trying to run a decent business without taking sides, and it was easier to take the thing off because of the fact that it was creating so much turmoil."

The $6 hot dog with chili, coleslaw, jalapenos and "Kaep Sauce," named as part of a contest in 2011 when the 49ers drafted him, was a hot item after Kaepernick helped lead the team to the Super Bowl after the 2012 season.

Now? It's become a "political football," Newsum told USA Today.

"There’s comments on both sides," Newsum said. "We’ve had people call us and some say it’s a great thing, we’re glad you did that, and other people want to know what in the heck we’re doing. Rather than get into a skirmish, it was our idea just to take it off (the menu)."
