The Browns have chosen to go with youth at the quarterback position.
Rookie quarterback Cody Kessler has been announced as the starter against the Cowboys after missing last week with a concussion, the team announced.
WEEK 9 PICKS: Straight up | Against the spread
“He has some uncanny ability. He has some moxie, some poise and he has demonstrated that," Browns coach Hue Jackson said. "He has done some good things in games, but you have to do it over a number of opportunities to really know that it is truly in there."
The third round pick has thrown four touchdowns and only one interception while completing 67 percent of his passes for 947 yards in five games. He will be handed the reins from Josh McCown, whose Week 2 shoulder/collarbone injury opened the door for Kessler following Robert Griffin III's season-ending shoulder fracture.
"The more I can see guys play, the better decisions I can make as we move forward," Jackson said. "It is tough because Josh has done some great work for me and for this team and for our offense. I keep talking about the long-term picture for myself and our organization of knowing and seeing and making sure of where we are. That is really important.”
