Veteran NFL running back Chris Johnson is reportedly recovering at an Orlando hospital after being shot early Sunday in a drive-by shooting that left one man dead.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the shooting, which happened just after 4 a.m., left one man dead inside a Jeep and two men injured on the sidedwalk. Johnson, 29, was wounded in the shoulder, and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. An Orange County Sheriff's Department statement said an unknown vehicle had pulled alongside the Jeep at the intersection of Southland Boulevard and Orange Blossom Trail and opened fire.

Police identified the deceased man as Dreekins Oriko Johnson, 28. The other victim, Reggie Johnson, suffered three gunshot wounds. He is also in stable condition. It is unknown if the other victims are related to the three-time Pro Bowl running back.

NFL Media reported Sunday afternoon that Johnson is expected to recover.

The 29-year-old Johnson, who rushed for 2,006 yards with the Titans in 2009, was released by the Jets in February. It's been a tough offseason for the former Pro Bowler. He was arrested in early January in his hometown of Orlando for second-degree misdemeanor charge of open carrying of weapons/firearms. Police had pulled him over after he rolled through a stop sign. He was released on a $250 bond.

Police are continuing to investigate Sunday's shooting.
