Chris Christie: 'I don't quite get' Dez Bryant call image

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was supposed to be the Cowboys’ lucky charm Sunday, but even the Christie magic wasn’t enough.

A controversial call helped send the Cowboys to Sunday’s divisional round at Green Bay, and another controversial call knocked them out of the postseason all together. When the officials reversed what looked to be a spectacular fourth-down catch by Dez Bryant and ruled the pass incomplete, Christie was dumbfounded.

“I was really surprised," Christie told NJ.com. "I thought he took three steps and reach out for the goal line, which is what you're supposed to do. It's a football move. I don't quite get it. I heard the back and forth on television afterward. It's just the way these things go. And I think it just shows as always, replay is good but replay doesn't prove everything. There's still judgment in this game, and the referee made his judgment. That's the way it goes."

The 26-21 loss broke a five-game win streak for the Cowboys with the Christie mojo in attendance, but the excitable elected official was still grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the team’s caravan.

"A less happy flight back to New Jersey than I was hoping to have, but it was a great run," he said. "I thanked the Jones family when it was over for letting me enjoy the run with them. … As a Cowboys fan, that's been a really great thing."

As for football fans everywhere, we’ll have to wait until next season for another awkward grown-man group hug.
