Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz will reportedly get the start in the Eagles season opener against the Browns if he is healthy, according to an ESPN report.

Wentz, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2016 draft, had originally been expected to sit and learn in his first season behind incumbent starter Sam Bradford and veteran backup Chase Daniel, who signed with the Eagles in free agency this offseason.

But the Eagles traded Bradford to the Vikings for a couple of draft choices Saturday morning, and first-year Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is apparently ready to put the team in Wentz's hands beginning with the season opener.

Wentz, who led North Dakota State to two FCS national championships, suffered a hairline fracture in his ribs in the Eagles preseason opener Aug. 11 and has not played in a game since. Wentz completed 12-of-24 passes for 89 yards and an interception in that game.

For those wondering if the young quarterback is ready to start in the NFL, you're not alone:

The question is, will Wentz be healthy enough to start the opener? Pederson told reporters Monday that Wentz had undergone an MRI, and it showed only 60 percent healing in one rib.
