A couple of weeks ago, the most exciting thing Cameron Dicker had to look forward to was a Carrie Underwood concert. He ended up not being able to make it. He had to go play in the NFL instead.
"Dicker the Kicker" has risen to national prominence after making two game-winning kicks for two different NFL teams this season — the Eagles on Oct. 9 and the Chargers on Nov. 6. He has been bouncing around the league as a fill-in for injured kickers since he was signed by the Rams as an undrafted free agent earlier this year.

Dicker recently went viral after telling reporters he had to miss Underwood's show to join up with the Chargers.

"I was like, 'Oh, my agent's calling me, this is weird,'" he said. "Then, 'Hey, how fast can you be at the airport?' [I] said, 'An hour and a half,' hopped on a flight and came right out."
He certainly made a good first impression, drilling a 37-yarder as time expired to give his new team a 20-17 win over the Falcons. He was even named AFC special teams Player of the Week for Week 9.

This week, the Chargers are taking on the 49ers on "Sunday Night Football," which also happens to feature Underwood as the singer of the program's theme song. After Underwood heard his story, she sent him a personalized message on the Chargers' Twitter feed ahead of kickoff.

This is truly the ideal outcome for Dicker. Not only does he get to fulfill his dream of playing in the NFL, he also won't miss out on seeing Underwood in concert.
It might be tricky for him to clear his calendar, though. If he keeps kicking as well as he has (he was perfect on all 11 of his NFL kicks through the early part of Sunday's game), he might be busy for the next few months.
