Cam Newton has reportedly started throwing an NFL-regulation football, a good sign in his comeback from offseason shoulder surgery, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Newton underwent an "arthroscopic procedure" on his right shoulder in late January, his second procedure on that shoulder in less than two years. He battled shoulder issues last season, with a noticeable decrease in his arm strength, and the Panthers shut him down for the final two games.
The Observer reported that Newton remains on pace to participate in training camp. There's a sense the Panthers rushed Newton back too soon from his rotator cuff surgery in March 2017, something they want to avoid this time.
The 30-year-old Newton passed for 3,385 passing yards last season, with 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions and a career-high 67.9 percent completion percentage. The 2015 NFL MVP has two seasons left on his current contract.
