Reports: Houston to sign Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallet image

Once backups to Tom Brady in New England, Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallet are once again teammates. This time, however, both players are looking to become the face of a franchise.

Hoyer has agreed to terms with the Texans, while Ryan Mallet has re-signed with the team, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Hoyer threw for 3,326 yards in 2014 in Cleveland last year while starting 13 games. Mallet played in just three games last season, throwing for 400 yards and two touchdowns in two starts before a pectoral injury ended his season. Both quarterbacks were on the 2011 Patriots team. The offensive coordinator of that team was Bill O'Brien, currently the Houston OC.

Hoyer is no stranger to quarterback competition. He spent last season in a battle against highly-touted Johnny Manziel in Cleveland, one that he ultimately won during the preseason. Hoyer remained the starter for much of the season until the coaching staff decided to give Manziel a shot late in the year.
