49ers reportedly will bid to host College Football Playoff championship game image

The 49ers are expected to bid to host a national championship game at Levi’s Stadium, The Associated Press reported Wednesday.

According to the AP, a source revealed that the 49ers will seek to host the 2018, '19 or '20 title game when they come up for bid later this year.

New Jersey officials are also considering bidding for a national championship game at MetLife Stadium. Additionally, Orlando, Jacksonville and Miami have confirmed interest and Indianapolis and Minneapolis previously mentioned interest. The teams will have until May to bid and a final decision regarding the winning bidders is expected in the fall.

The Cowboys hosted the first college championship game between Ohio State and Oregon at AT&T Stadium on Jan. 12. The next two title games will take place in Glendale, Arizona, and Tampa, Florida.

Last week, Levi’s Stadium attracted 70,000 fans when it hosted the NHL Stadium Series game between the Sharks and Kings.
