The Chiefs open their postseason this weekend against the Texans, and all eyes are on them. Kansas City enters the postseason at 15-2 and looking to win a historic third consecutive Super Bowl.
As a result, everything surrounding the Chiefs will be scrutinized, including the referees during their games. The NFL announced this weekend's referee assignments Monday, and many fans were upset by the league's choice for the first AFC game Saturday.
Ahead of the Chiefs' playoff opener, here is a look at who will be the referee during the game.

NFL referees for Texans-Chiefs playoff game
Veteran referee Clay Martin will be working this weekend's game between the Chiefs and Texans.
Martin is in his 10th years as an NFL official, including his seventh as a referee. Since Patrick Mahomes' took over as the starting quarterback in 2018, Martin has officiated six Chiefs games, and Kansas City has won all six.
Therefore, Martin's past has some fans concerned that the league could be favoring the two-time defending champions.
Yet as other fans have pointed out, the Chiefs have won so much over the past seven years that it's hard to find referees who have worked Kansas City losses on a consistent basis.
Martin last worked a Chiefs playoff game four years ago, when he was the referee for Kansas City's divisional-round win over the Browns. Additionally, last year, Martin was the referee for the Texans' playoff victory against Cleveland in the wild-card round.
For the playoffs, Martin will not be working with his typical crew, as the NFL creates different crew combinations for the postseason. Here is the full list of officials for Saturday's game.
Position | Official |
Referee | Clay Martin |
Umpire | Scott Campbell |
Down Judge | Kent Payne |
Line Judge | Walter Flowers |
Field Judge | Jason Ledet |
Side Judge | James Coleman |
Back Judge | Greg Yatte |
Replay Offical | Matt Sumstine |
Replay Assistant | Tim England |
According to Football Zebras, this crew features nine officials from six different crews over the course of the 2024 regular season. So, while Martin may have never worked during a Chiefs loss, that doesn't mean it's the case for the entire teams of officials.
