The report also stated that New Orleans' assistant coaching staff, including associate head coach Darren Erman, Chris Finch, and Fred Vinson, also had their contract options picked up.

Despite losing DeMarcus Cousins to an Achilles injury, Gentry helped lead the Pelicans into the playoffs, where they just outed Portland in four games.

Gentry, 63, was 64-100 in his first two seasons as Pelicans coach before this season's 48-34 record.

The Pelicans will next play the winner of the Warriors-Spurs series, which Golden State leads 3-1 after the Spurs fought to win Game 4.
