Melbourne Mavericks became the new franchise for the upcoming Suncorp Super Netball season after the Collingwood Magpies folded upon the conclusion of the 2023 season.
The Mavericks will compete for the first time in the league this year after they were handed the license previously owned by the Magpies, beating out as many as six other teams to set up their home in Victoria.
Who are the Melbourne Mavericks?
The Mavericks, who are owned by Sports Entertainment Network (SEN), will enter into the league amidst a competition-wide upheaval.

"We couldn’t be more excited to launch our brand and strongly believe the Mavericks name reflects who we are as a team on the court, but also overall as a club," General Manager of Netball Operations, Shae Bolton-Brown, said upon the unveiling of the club.
"We want to be bold and take the game in an exciting direction that appeals to existing and new netball fans.
"We are respectful but ambitious to do things our own way, united by admiration of our athletes’ skill and strength."
Upon their unveiling late last year, the Mavericks also revealed they would be led by former England coach Tracey Neville.
"The thought process behind our new brand is awesome, it has impact, sells our story and speaks loudly about the staff and players we want to attract to be part of our family," the coach said.
"The brand means business and so do we as a new franchise."
The Mavericks will play their first game against the Melbourne Vixens on April 14 at John Cain Arena.
