On Feb. 9, the school suspended three players and football staff member Curtis Blackwell while the university investigated the sexual assault complaint. The university parted ways with Blackwell after his contract expired May 31.

The Spartans have a had a rough offseason off the field. In addition to this case, defensive lineman Auston Robertson is facing a third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge stemming from an April 9 incident, as reported by MLive.com. Robertson was suspended from the team on April 21.
