Ohio State hires Butler's Chris Holtmann as new basketball coach, per report image

Ohio State will announce Chris Holtmann as its new men's basketball coach Friday, according to sources cited by the Columbus Dispatch

The report confirms there will be a press conference Friday to announce Holtmann as the replacement for Thad Matta, who was fired Monday. Holtmann's contract is reportedly for eight years and "roughly $24 million."

Holtmann took over at Butler in 2014-15, compling a 70-31 record the past three seasons. The Bulldogs reached the NCAA tournament in all three seasons, and they made the Sweet 16 in March. Holtmann coached at Gardner-Webb for three seasons before that.

Holtmann replaces Thad Matta, who was fired after 13 seasons with the Buckeyes. Ohio State assistant Chris Jent and Creighton coach Doug McDermott also interviewed for the position.
