Texas and LSU are on the hunt for new head coaches, and both are keen on hiring Houston's Tom Herman.
According to multiple reports, LSU is aggressively pursuing Herman out of the state of Texas and could name him the Tigers coach by Saturday, leaving Texas out in the cold but opening the door for others in Austin.

The name Jon Gruden is expected to surface if the school doesn't hire Herman, Sports Illustrated reported.
Since going into to broadcasting in 2009, Gruden's name frequently has been connected to the high-profile gigs that open up each offseason, including at Texas in 2013 to replace Mack Brown.
Currently working as an analyst on ESPN's "Monday Night Football," a job he considers to be a lot like coaching, Gruden, 53, reportedly is interested in returning only to the NFL, where he went 95-81 with the Raiders and Buccaneers.
In 2014, Gruden signed a lucrative contract with the network through the 2021 season and has been known to publicly deliver mixed messages about a return that rarely equate to anything greater than a bluff.
It's going to take a lot of money to lure Gruden out of the broadcast booth, but if any school could do it it's Texas.
