Ohio furniture company liable for $1.5 million in goods after Buckeyes win image

Morris Furniture Company made a bet with its customers: Anyone who bought more than $1,999 worth of goods between Dec. 17 and Jan. 1 would get their money back if Ohio State beat Oregon by seven or more points in Monday's College Football Playoff National Championship game.

The Buckeyes won by 22.

The wager will prove costly; the company is expected to shell out up to $1.5 million in refunds to about 500 customers in Ohio and Kentucky.

You can't blame Morris for trying. Oregon was favored in Las Vegas, and based on its Rose Bowl blowout of Florida State all signs pointed to a close game.

This is great news for fans in Columbus, who probably burned their couches after the Buckeyes beat the Ducks 42-20.
