Florida says 'we have made no job offers' in response to Freeze rumors image

So, about those reports that Florida offered Hugh Freeze its head coaching job.

Gators AD Jeremy Foley says it hasn’t happened.

“We will have no comment on the recent multiple reports other than to say that we have made no job offers to anyone and reports claiming that are false,” the school released in a statement.

Freeze has been mentioned as a lead candidate for the Florida job, vacated when Foley fired Will Muschamp.

Ole Miss beat rival Mississippi State on Saturday, ending the Bulldogs’ chances of reaching the first College Football Playoff. But the Rebels — once inside the top four playoff rankings — had their season derailed with three losses in four games to LSU, Auburn and Arkansas.

Freeze denied that he’d had discussions with Florida after Saturday’s victory.

“It’s amazing to me how things put on the Internet are now believable,” Freeze told reporters. “I have not heard from any university other than the one I’m fortunate to be the head coach (of). Like I said (last) week, I don’t comment on job statuses or anybody’s job status, and particularly mine whether it’s good or bad.”

And Ole Miss AD Ross Bjork told the Orlando Sentinel’s Mike Bianchi that he expects schools to come after his head coach.

“… We love that he’s a hot commodity,” Bjork said on Bianchi’s Open Mike radio show. “That means our program is doing the right things and he’s doing the right things.”

And Bjork reiterated that Freeze is his coach.

“We believe that Coach Freeze is our guy,” he added. “We love what he’s doing and we love what he stands for. We think this could be a long-term deal for us and for Coach and that’s how we’re going to approach it.”

Florida defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin is the team’s interim coach and is coaching the Gators in their bowl game after Muschamp coached his final game at UF against Florida State.
