Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson, who led the Irish to the BCS championship game in 2012, will transfer, ESPN's Brett McMurphy reported.
Golson is scheduled to graduate from Notre Dame in May and would be eligible to play right away as a graduate transfer. Golson released a statement through FoxSports on the transfer:

"After much thought, prayer and discussion with my family, I have decided that it is in my best interest to graduate from Notre Dame and transfer to another school effective immediately," Golson said. "I would like to thank everyone at Notre Dame for the opportunity to compete at the highest level of college football, but most importantly to obtain my degree from one of the finest universities in the country. To all the Fighting Irish fans, I want to thank you for your support over the past four years and let you know I truly love Notre Dame. To my former teammates, who I will miss tremendously, I wish much success in the future and will be your biggest fan from afar."
Golson led Notre Dame to a 12-0 record in the regular season and a spot in the BCS champoinship game in 2012. He was suspended for the 2013 season as a result of an academic violation.
Golson returned as the starter for the Irish in 2014. He passed for 3,445 and 29 TDs, but he also struggled with turnovers. Golson threw 14 interceptions and split time with Malik Zaire in the Music City Bowl win against LSU.
Golson has been rumored to be a transfer candidate for a few SEC schools, but as NBCSports.com reported in January, he would need an approval from the SEC office to transfer to any of those schools.
