The first Saturday of the 2016 college football season started off in a crazy fashion, with No. 15 Houston pulling off an insane win over No 3 Oklahoma.

The madness continued with Wisconsin knocking off No. 5 LSU at Lambeau Field and No. 18 Georgia playing close to home in Atlanta against No. 22 North Carolina.

For the primetime spot, top-ranked Alabama rolled over No. 20 USC as Clemson knocked off Auburn, 19-13.

Check back for more live updates.

UPDATE: 12:45 a.m. ET

Auburn made it interesting at the end, but Clemson safety Jadar Johnson knocked away two Hail Mary passes late to secure a 19-13 victory for second-ranked Clemson.

As the games wrapped up in the Eastern and Central time zones, BYU jumped out to a 9-0 halftime lead at Arizona as sophomore linebacker Francis Bernard was playing superbly with a sack and interception.

UPDATE: 12:10 a.m. ET

TCU got more than it bargained for against South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits of the FCS level answered just about every score against the 13th-ranked Horned Frogs, but TCU pulled away late for a 59-41 victory in Forth Worth.

Leading the way for the Horned Frogs was junior quarterback Kenny Hill, who threw for 439 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Hill also ran for 45 yards and three scores on seven carries.

Not to be overlooked was SDSU sophomore quarterback Taryn Christion, who threw for 333 yards and three scores without an interception and ran for another touchdown in the losing effort.

UPDATE: 11:40 p.m. ET

On a rough weekend for the SEC, No. 1 Alabama made a clear point it's the team to beat. The defending national champions cruised to a 52-6 victory over No. 20 USC at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

But other SEC teams did fare so well. After fifth-ranked LSU lost to Wisconsin earlier in the day, Southern Miss left Kentucky's Commonwealth Stadium with a 44-35 victory and Auburn didn't top 100 yards of total offense until late in the third quarter as No. 2 Clemson held a 13-3 lead.

Arkansas barely escaped with a 21-20 home win over Louisiana Tech and Florida had a hard time in a 24-7 win over Massachusetts.

Speaking of teams having a hard time, No. 13 TCU was in a shootout with FCS South Dakota State. The Horned Frogs held a 52-41 lead midway through the fourth quarter. In a game that has nearly 1,100 yards, TCU quarterback Kenny Hill has 438 passing yards and two touchdowns, including a 46-yard pass that Taj Williams caught on a deflection to give TCU its two-score lead.

UPDATE: 10:30 p.m. ET

The defending national champions have finally showed up. Following a slow start against USC, Alabama has rolled off 31 straight points to hold a 31-3 lead midway through the third quarter. While the Crimson Tide led 17-3 at halftime, perhaps the dagger as the Tide cruise to an inevitable victory was a 71-yard touchdown pass to ArDarius Stewart early in the third quarter.

UPDATE: 9:15 p.m. ET

This just in — Nick Chubb is really good. After suffering a devastating knee injury last October, the Georgia running back was back to his old form Saturday night against North Carolina. The junior had 222 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yard run that gave the Bulldogs a 33-24 lead with 3:34 remaining.

UPDATE: 8:28 p.m. ET

USC kicker Matt Boermeester might want to buy a lottery ticket after Saturday night's game. The redshirt junior banked in a 47-yard field goal to give USC an early 3-0 lead on Alabama. The ball caromed off the left upright before bouncing over the crossbar in a bank shot that would make pool players jealous.

The kick was set up by a 36-yard catch by Darreus Rogers from Max Browne.

UPDATE: 7:54 p.m. ET

Another ranked team went down Saturday as Texas A&M knocked off No. 16 UCLA  at Kyle Field. Following a comeback to force overtime, the Aggies got a 1-yard score by quarterback Trevor Knight in overtime to give A&M a 31-24 victory.

Elsehwere in the SEC, No. 18 Georgia was down 24-14 in the third quarter to No. 22 North Carolina at the Georgia Dome. The Tar Heels took the lead on T.J. Logan's 95-yard kickoff return to open the second half.

The Tar Heels added another touchdown with 6:34 remaining in the third with a 21-yard run by Logan, who had 214 all-purpose yards following his second touchdown.

UPDATE: 7:00 p.m. ET

Another top-5 team has gone down. After Houston upset No. 3 Oklahoma earlier in the day, unranked Wisconsin closed out No. 5 LSU at Lambeau Field.

D'Cota Dixon's interception with 57 seconds remaining secured Wisconsin's 16-14 victory as the Badgers forced three LSU turnovers.

Wisconsin, unranked in the preseason for the first time since 2009 despite coming off a 10-win season, also turned the ball over three times. The Badgers got a 47-yard field goal from Rafael Gaglianone with 3:47 remaining to be the game winner.

The only other time two top-5 teams lost in the first week of the season was 1972.

UPDATE: 6:28 p.m. ET

Unranked Texas A&M has a 24-9 fourth-quarter lead on UCLA, ranked 16th in the AP poll and 24th in the Coaches poll, thanks to its defense. Leading the Aggies has been junior defensive end Myles Garrett, who has been unblockable against the Bruins.

UPDATE: 6:10 p.m. ET

After getting shut out for over a half, it was the LSU defense that got the Tigers on the board at Lambeau Field. Tre White's pick-six of Wisconsin quarterback Bart Houston sparked an LSU rally.

The Tigers then took a 14-13 lead following a Badgers fumble with Travin Dural catching a swing pass and scoring from 10 yards out.

UPDATE: 4:55 p.m. ET

No. 16 UCLA is struggling. Texas A&M's Keith Ford rushed for seven yards to get the first touchdown of the game, putting the Aggies up 7-6. The running back found a huge hole in UCLA's defense, making the touchdown too easy.

Washington quarterback Jake Browning was also quick to silence critics saying he wasn't experienced enough to lead the Huskies. The sophomore took his final bow at the end of the third quarter and finished his day with three touchdowns and went 18 for 27 with 287 passing yards.

update: 4:30 p.m. ET

DENIED! LSU's Rickey Jefferson picked off Wisconsin quarterback Bart Houston's pass to the endzone, keeping the score at 0-0 and giving LSU the ball.

UPDATE: 4:07 p.m. ET

So far, it's a battle of the defenses at Lambeau Field. Wisconsin continues to break up LSU's passes, with T.J. Watt stuffing the Tigers on a crucial third down

Meanwhile the Tigers have held the Badgers to just 13 plays over two series.

No. 17 Iowa was quick to get the party started against Miami (Ohio). LeShun Daniels Jr. has already scored two touchdowns for the Hawkeyes and Akrum Wadley added another touchdown for a 21-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of play

UPDATE: 3:23 p.m. ET

Northwestern lost the football game on this strange play which gave Western Michigan the win. Not a great start to Northwestern's season.

Houston continues to roll over Oklahoma with a Greg Ward Jr. touchdown pass to Tyler McCloskey, upping the score to 33-17. Oklahoma also fumbled the ball when Baker Mayfield was sacked Tyus Bowser halfway through the fourth quarter.

UPDATE: 2:23 p.m. ET

WOW. Did Oklahoma even see Brandon Wilson under the goalpost?! The Houston cornerback made a 109-yard missed field goal return to bolster the Cougar's lead to 26-17.

Quarterback J.T. tied Ohio State's single-game touchdown record with six touchdown throws. His day was over before the third quarter ended with 21 for 31 passes completed and for 349 yards.

Meanwhile, the post Frank Beamer era is still on shaky ground. Liberty took advantage of a Virginia Tech fumble and returned it for a touchdown, but the Hokies retaliated with two touchdowns of their own. Virginia Tech has a 24-13 lead over Liberty.

Meanwhile, Ohio State continues to wreck havoc on Bowling Green with a crazy interception by Malik Hooker that really should not have been caught.

UPDATE: 2:07 p.m. ET

The No. 3 quarterback for the Navy wasn't expecting to play, so he sat in the stands in his whites to enjoy the game. Boy, was he surprised when he was yanked out of the stands and sent to the locker room to dress out after starting quarterback Tago Smith was injured.

Michigan's demolition of Hawaii continues, with freshman running back Chris Evans rushing for 112 yards and two touchdowns off eight carries. His second touchdown was a 42-yard run that put the Wolverines up 42-0.

UPDATE: 1:26 p.m ET

Those Sooners didn't wait long to take the lead back from Houston. Baker Mayfield connected with Mark Andrews for a 64-yard touchdown bomb, putting Oklahoma up 17-13.

Houston came close to scoring  again , but increased pressure on Ward forced the Cougars to settle for a field goal, bring the score to 17-16.

Virginia Tech's new coach, Justin Fuente, is no Frank Beamer — but he and the Hokies have gone into halftime with a 7-6 lead over the Liberty Flames. It hasn't been pretty — Virginia Tech already fumbled the ball once and missed a field goal. Hopefully halftime will shake off those first-game jitters.

Northwestern appears to be using the same formula it did last year, which led them to a 10-win season. Up 7-3, the Wildcats are holding Western Michigan's offense to limited play.

UPDATE: 1:00 p.m ET

Can we take a second to appreciate Greg Ward Jr.? Houston's quarterback just secured the Cougar's ( 13-10 ) lead over Oklahoma with a 15-yard pass to Duke Catalon.

Setting up the touchdown was a 44-yard pass to Isaiah Johnson, which put them on Oklahoma's 25-yard line.

UPDATE: 12:48 p.m. ET

Well, that didn't take long. Ohio State came thundering back and has scored two more touchdowns to put the Buckeyes up 21-7. Barrett is clearly becoming more comfortable, throwing all three of the team's touchdowns, including this gem to Curtis Samuel.

Michigan also has a comfortable 21-0 lead over Hawaii, with Speight throwing all three of the Wolverine's touchdowns. Maybe it has something to do with coach Jim Harbaugh's body punches?

UPDATED: 12:27 p.m. ET

It's official: Joe Mixon is a beast. The Oklahoma running back caught a bomb from quarterback Baker Mayfield and ran 32 yards to score the Sooners' first touchdown of the game against No. 15 Houston. The Sooners are up 10-6  over the Cougars.

UPDATED: 10:42 a.m. ET

A fumble with three seconds left in the game sealed Boston College's fate as Georgia Tech went on to win, 17-14.

Even though they are known for their triple offense, Georgia Tech quarterback took a chance and threw a 22-yard pass to Qua Searcy on fourth-and-19 to keep their win chances alive. That play set them up for a four-yard touchdown and victory in Ireland.

UPDATED: 10:05 a.m. ET

Some Wisconsin fans took their hopes of beating No. 5 LSU to a new level with a Lee Corso contraption putting on the Bucky Badger head.

The artwork! The engineering! Props to whomever created this contraption.

UPDATED: 9:19 a.m. ET

Boston College finally got on the board early in the second half with a 73-yard touchdown run by running back Jon Hilliman. The extra point tied it at 7-7 in Dublin.

The run was huge for Boston College, which isn't known for it's offense. But the momentum carried over to its defense, which forced a Georgia Tech fumble on the next series.

UPDATED: 8:47 a.m. ET

Boston College looked like it could tie Georgia Tech with a touchdown when the Eagles fumbled the ball right into Kyle Cerge-Henderson's hands. It's the second turnover for Boston College, which remains scoreless.
