Michigan fired football coach Brady Hoke after four seasons.
Interim athletic director Jm Hackett confirmed the move at a press conference on Tuesday. Hackett said the search for a new coach begins immediately with the help of a search firm.

"I believe Brady had enough time to produce results, and they're just not there" Hackett said.
Hackett said former Michigan offensive coordinator Mike DeBord will oversee day-to-day operations of the program but is not a candidate for the job. Hackett said the staff will meet with defensive coordinator Greg Mattison and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, and both will have a chance to interview with the next coach. Hackett met with the players along with Hoke at a 3 p.m. meeting before the press conference.
No candidates for the job were named, but Michigan figures to take a run at San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and LSU coach Les Miles, among others. Hackett, however, had strong words for a favorite Wolverines' mantra.
"I want to get rid of the word 'Michigan Man,'" Hackett said.
Hoke took over at Michigan in 2011 and led the Wolverines to an 11-2 record and a Sugar Bowl win against Virginia Tech in his first season.
The Wolverines, however, saw a steady decline the next three seasons, including 3-5 records in the Big Ten in 2013 and 2014. Michigan finished 5-7 this season after a 42-28 loss to Ohio State on Saturday.
It’s the third time in the last seven seasons the Wolverines failed to reach the postseason. Dave Brandon, who hired Hoke, resigned as Michigan's athletic director on Oct. 31. Hackett replaced Brandon on an interim basis.
