Boston College DT tackles two players to force fumble, defensive score image

If you don't know who has the ball, tackle 'em both.

That's what Boston College's Noa Merritt did to force a fumble that was recovered by fellow defensive lineman Kevin Kavalec for a touchdown in the third quarter of Monday's Quick Lane Bowl at Detroit's Ford Field.

Merritt, a 6-foot, 277-pound junior, blew past Maryland center Brendan Moore as the Terps were in a shotgun formation. Before senior quarterback Perry Hills could hand the ball off to sophomore running back Ty Johnson, Merritt was on top of them. He wrapped up both players, causing a fumble that was recovered in the end zone by Kavalec.

The defensive score gave the Eagles (6-6) a 36-13 lead on their former ACC rivals on what was Maryland's first offensive play of the second half. The Terrapins (6-6) answered with two quick touchdowns to get back into the game before the end of the third quarter.
