Between now and the College Football Playoff championship game Jan. 12, we'll look at each of the 16 BCS seasons and project how a four-team playoff could have played out. Here's the third season.
2000
BCS final: Oklahoma 13, Florida State 2
Playoff setup
1. Oklahoma (12-0)
2. Florida State (11-1)
3. Washington (10-1)
4. Miami (10-1)
LOOKING BACK: 1999 mock playoff | 1998
Oklahoma holds the No. 1 spot as the lone unbeaten team in the power conferences, and the committee gets an excuse to split Florida State and Miami. The committee honors Washington's head-to-head win against Miami from Sept. 9 though many pollsters feel the Hurricanes are the best team in the country. Two-loss Florida tries to lobby into the playoff after winning the SEC championship, but the 30-7 loss to Florida State is still too fresh in mind.
The semifinals
Miami shocks Oklahoma 28-14 to win its third game against a team ranked either No. 1 or No. 2. Santana Moss ' 68-yard punt return seals the win. Chris Weinke throws for three TDs in a 38-30 shootout against Washington to set up a rematch with the Hurricanes.

The final
It’s the same fast-and-furious Miami-Florida State game as always. The Seminoles jump out to a 14-0 behind two Weinke TD passes to Boldin, but Ken Dorsey rallies the Hurricanes with two TDs of his own, the second on a 44-yard screen pass to Najeh Davenport. Miami takes a 21-20 lead with 1:42 left on another TD pass to Jeremy Shockey, but Florida State drives to give kicker Matt Munyon a shot at redemption with a 43-yard field goal attempt with two seconds remaining. Does Munyon make that field goal?
