Toilet bowl no more: Warriors release new images of San Francisco arena project image

The Golden State Warriors this afternoon unveiled fresh art of their San Francisco arena project. Hopefully, there will be no more snarky jokes about comparisons with toilet bowls.

The new renderings show a finished product compared with the initial rudimentary drawings that flashed across social media several weeks ago.

At the time, many observers uninformed about the process for designing sports facilities poked fun at those early placeholder images. They were used to provide public officials a better idea of how the facility was taking shape in the city's Mission Bay district. They were never intended to be consumed and dissected by social media.

But hey, stuff happens and as some say, bad PR is better than no PR.

Today, the Warriors and their architects released some gorgeous eye candy showcasing a gleaming arena and related development outside the facility

In addition to the 18,064-seat venue, the Warriors plan to develop 100,000 square feet of retail space, mostly food-related, plus 580,000 square feet of office and tech space. Two outdoor plazas will span about 60,000 square feet. Separating the arena from the bay will be a five-and-a-half acre waterfront park.

The arena is scheduled to open for the 2018-19 season.
