Warriors vs. Lakers score, results: Stephen Curry shines in Golden State's convincing ring night win image

The Warriors opened their title defense on a great note, earning a 123-109 win over the visiting Lakers.

Prior to tipoff, Golden State's players received their championship rings and raised the fourth banner of the Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Steve Kerr era to the rafters.

After a rather ugly start on both sides, it was the Warriors that took over, outscoring the Lakers 32-19 in the third quarter to take full command and not look back, cruising to a 14-point victory. Curry led the way with 33 points (on 10 of 22 shooting) while Andrew Wiggins finished with 20 points and Klay Thompson added 19 points in 18 minutes.

For the Lakers, who shot 10 of 40 from 3-point range on the night, LeBron James led the way with 31 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists, while Anthony Davis added 27 points on 10 of 22 shooting and Russell Westbrook scored 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting. Outside of that trio, the Lakers scored 32 points on 11-of-34 shooting.

(All times Eastern.)

Final: Warriors 123, Lakers 109

1:07 a.m. — Andrew Wiggins has caught fire in the fourth.

Two stepback 3s and an addition triple bring Wiggins' total to 20 points on the night to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Wiggins is 4 of 7 from 3-point range. The Warriors are now 16 of 44 from deep after a cold start.

It's Warriors 121, Lakers 104 as Golden State looks to put this one away. Timeout on the floor with 1:42 remaining and starters are being pulled.

1:00 a.m.  — A layup from Kendrick Nunn brings his total to 11 points on the night and makes the deficit 14.

5:13 remains in regulation and there's a timeout on the floor. The score: Warriors 103, Lakers 89.

After a rough showing in the third, LA is showing some fight in an attempt to claw away, but Golden State might have too much firepower to overcome.

12:57 a.m. — We've crossed the midway point of the final frame and LA's cut the deficit to 13.

Warriors 100, Lakers 87 with 5:50 remaining.

How much closer can LA cut it?

12:50 a.m. — The Lakers are trying to chip away as the fourth quarter gets going.

Timeout on the floor. 9:04 remaining. Warriors 93, Lakers 77.

LeBron James is up to 28 points, 14 rebounds and five assists to lead the way for LA, but it has a lot more work to do in order to continue chipping away at Golden State's lead.

End of Third Quarter: Warriors 91, Lakers 71

12:41 a.m. — A triple from LeBron James cuts the deficit to 20 but the damage is done. The Warriors look primed to move to 1-0 as they use a dominant third quarter to take command.

Stephen Curry leads the Warriors with 24 points, a mark only matched by James, who is up to 24 after his last 3-pointer.

LA is 6 of 31 from 3-point range while Golden State is 9 of 31. The difference has been overall offensive efficiency and execution as the Lakers are up to 17 turnovers while dishing out 14 assists.

The Warriors have committed 13 turnovers but also have assisted on 21 of 33 field goals.

12:33 a.m. — The extended run continues as the score is now Warriors 89, Lakers 64.

We have a timeout on the floor as Lakers head coach Darvin Ham challenges an offensive foul charged to LeBron James.

Golden State is on a 23-4 run over a span in which LA has committed seven turnovers. The Lakers have 17 turnovers on the game.

12:25 a.m. — It's starting to get out of hand at the Chase Center.

A transition 3 from Stephen Curry makes it a 14-2 extended run for the Warriors, who now have a 20-point lead.

There's 5:24 left in the third and it's Warriors 84, Lakers 64.

Curry's up to a game-high 21 points for Golden State, which is putting on an offensive clinic. The team's assisted on 22 of its 30 made field goals in this one.

12:20 a.m. — And the Warriors are starting to create distance.

Sloppy play from LA is making way for easy opportunities on the offensive end for Golden State. A quick 8-0 run has the Warriors up 16 points with seven minutes remaining in the quarter.

Warriors 78, Lakers 62. 7:07 remains in the third.

12:13 a.m. — These teams are going back and forth to get the second half underway with Golden State keeping LA at arms' reach.

This transition slam from LeBron James cuts the deficit to eight early on in the third.

Warriors 70, Lakers 62. 8:42 to play in the quarter.

Halftime: Warriors 59, Lakers 52

11:51 p.m. — Two free throws from LeBron James cut the Lakers' deficit to seven right before the break, a relief given how poorly LA has shot in the half. James has 14 points (on 5 of 15 shooting) and the team is 3 of 21 from deep.

The Warriors' 5 of 20 shooting from 3-point range isn't much better, but the team is 16 of 30 from inside the arc, a product of efficient offense and ball movement.

Stephen Curry leads the way for the Warriors with 16 points and five rebounds, while Jordan Poole has added 10 points and five assists off the bench.

Worth noting for Los Angeles is the play of Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. Davis has a game-high 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting while Westbrook has stayed within himself to contribute 11 points (on 5-of-8 shooting) to go along with six rebounds and three assists.

11:40 p.m. — The Warriors are taking full advantage of the Lakers' inability to get going offensively.

Some savvy passing and fluid-flowing play offensively has allowed Golden State's lead to balloon to 14 points. Stephen Curry is up to a team-high 12 points despite shooting just 4 of 12 from the field and 0 of 5 from 3-point range.

As rough as the Warriors' 5-of-18 3-point shooting is, the Lakers are 2 of 20 from deep.

Warriors 53, Lakers 39 with 2:17 remaining in the first half.

11:25 p.m. — While the Lakers cannot buy a shot, the Warriors staged another run.

A quick 7-0 spurt from Golden State puts them back ahead by eight points. It's Warriors 34, Lakers 26 early on in the second.

LA is 1 of 15 from deep and LeBron James is 0 of 5 from 3-point land. James has seven points in the game but his cold shooting is a trend among the team.

End of First Quarter: Warriors 25, Lakers 22

11:18 p.m. — At the end of one, the Warriors hold onto a three-point lead.

Golden State, which is shooting 7 of 25 from the field and 3 of 11 from deep, is led by eight points off the bench from Jordan Poole, while Stephen Curry is 1 of 7 and has committed two turnovers.

The Lakers are shooting 8 of 24 from the field and 1 of 10 from 3-point range and are led by Anthony Davis' 10 points. What's keeping LA in it early on? Its outscoring Golden State 14-2 in the paint.

11:05 p.m. — The Lakers are enjoying some early activity from Anthony Davis, who has 10 first-quarter points in nine minutes of action.

He's doing a bit of everything for LA.

11:00 p.m. — LeBron James has entered the chat. The first bucket of Year 20 comes after a strong move on JaMychal Green.

10:56 p.m. — Jordan Poole has quickly injected some life into this one, scoring six points in just over a minute to give Golden State a 19-10 lead.

Poole is 2 of 2 from deep, with a stepback over LeBron James and a transition triple.

Speaking of James, he's off to a quiet start as he's missed all three of his field goal attempts early on. Anthony Davis is pacing the Lakers with four points.

10:50 p.m. — It's been a cold start for both teams with the Lakers shooting 4 of 11 (36.4 percent) and the Warriors shooting 3 of 10 (30.0 percent) early on.

The Warriors lead 11-8 with 6:49 left in the first. Timeout on the floor.

Stephen Curry's got four points and five boards in five minutes of action.

10:40 p.m. — And we're off at the Chase Center as the Lakers' season gets underway via a driving finish from Anthony Davis.

Game on.

Ring Ceremony

10:15 p.m. — Before the game gets underway, there's another order of business … the rings.

Golden State is set to receive some serious jewelry, designed by Jason of Beverly Hills.

Pregame

9:35 p.m. — Starting for Los Angeles: Patrick Beverley, Russell Westbrook, Lonnie Walker IV, LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
