As Houston continues to recover from the deluge brought by Hurricane Harvey, Tracy McGrady and his wife found a way to give back Monday.

On a whim, the McGradys decided to host a Labor Day barbecue and donation drive for those affected by the flooding, and ended up with enough food to serve about 800 people at a church in Houston's Third Ward.

McGrady told the Houston Chronicle all credit for the idea should go to his wife, who spearheaded the plan over the weekend.

"We wanted to be able to give back," CleRenda McGrady told the Chronicle. "There are a lot of Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. What was important to us was to serve an area that already needed an extra boost. That's why we decided to come to this particular area: to show them some extra love. Labor Day is all about barbecue, so we wanted to bring the barbecue to them.

"This is the rebuilding stage. We wanted to help people transition back to normality as much as possible. We wanted to give them an extra boost of encouragement and hope."

The barbecue was an unexpected addition to an already busy week for the McGradys. Friday night, Tracy will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
