The former San Antonio Spurs star released a statement regarding his retirement two days after the franchise broke the news.
“If asked to write a script for my career 19 years ago, there is no way I would have been able to dream up this journey,” Duncan wrote, in part, in a one-page statement. “I stand here at the end of this ride and look back in awe of what I’ve experienced.”

The first pick in the 1997 NBA Draft, Duncan led a storybook career that included five NBA championships, two MVP awards and 15 All-Star nods.
“The wins and losses will be remembered,” Duncan wrote, “but what I’ll remember most are the people.”
Duncan went on to thank the fans, coaches and his teammates who helped him complete one of the greatest careers in NBA history. He said what he will cherish most is his children getting to watch him work.
Thanks for letting us watch too, Tim.
