The first return fan voting is in for the 2018 NBA All-Star game and rookie Ben Simmons is not far off getting a starting nod.

Simmons is currently sitting in the fourth spot behind Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, and Victor Oladipo in the East guards category.

If Simmons is able to break through into the top two spots, he would put himself in prime position for an opportunity to start in the marquee game on Monday, February 20th in Los Angeles.

The fan vote will account for 50%, while all current players and a media panel will account for 25%, so although Simmons may not be in at the moment there's still a possibility for the players and media to get him in the game. Alternately he could hold a starting spot after the fan vote and have the media and players select someone else.

East returns

Blake Griffin in 2011, was the last rookie to play in the NBA's All-Star game. Like Simmons, Griffin also missed his first NBA season due to injury, which left in rookie eligible for his second year in the Association.

The next fan voting update will be shared on Friday, Jan. 12 (AEDT), with fan voting ending on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
