The architect of one of the NBA’s biggest rebuilding disasters reportedly has stepped down.
Sam Hinkie resigned Wednesday as the 76ers' general manager and president of basketball operations, according to ESPN.com.

The Vertical reports two-time NBA Executive of the Year Bryan Colangelo is the favorite to replace Hinkie. Colangelo, the son of 76ers chairman Jerry Colangelo, stepped down as Raptors president in 2013.
The 76ers, who have the NBA's worst record (10-68) this season, have been perennial bottom feeders since Hinkie took over in 2013. They have drafted in the top five in each year of his tenure.
That includes the 2014 NBA Draft, when the team picked Joel Embiid, who has yet to suit up for an NBA game due to injury.
