Phil Jackson insists no one has turned down Knicks coaching job image

The Knicks' ongoing search for a head coach has raised plenty of eyebrows around the NBA, most of them arched in Phil Jackson's general direction. Now Jackson is pushing back just a bit.

Reports surfaced Sunday night that Warriors assistant Luke Walton told Jackson he wasn't interested in the Knicks job at this point — no surprise on Walton's end, considering he should have his pick of whatever jobs come open in the NBA this summer.

But the reported rebuff provided one more opportunity to poke fun at the Knicks, and Jackson apparently wasn't amused.

"Press accounts of coaching actions are untrue," Jackson tweeted Monday morning. "Nobody has been asked nobody said no."

Forgive Jackson if he's getting a bit of a bunker mentality about the search to replace Derek Fisher at Madison Square Garden. He already has drawn fire for saying he would only seriously consider candidates with whom he already has familiarity, a group that includes interim coach Kurt Rambis.

Walton fits that key criteria, having played for Jackson in Los Angeles, but considering the work he did in leading Golden State through the early part of the season when Steve Kerr was sidelined with back problems, the 36-year-old figures to be able to find a more stable environment than what he would inherit in New York.

As for where that leaves the Knicks, perhaps we'll just wait on Jackson's next tweet to find out.
