Paul Pierce and his late-game heroics will be on display for at least one more season before he retires, he’s just not sure where.
Pierce, 37, is reportedly set on playing next season, according to the Washington Post, but it may not be with the Wizards. Pierce has a $5.5 million player option in Washington.
If he does decide not to exercise the option and becomes a free agent, he could still sign for more with the Wizards, but the Post report said he’s also considering a reunion with his former coach Doc Rivers and Rivers' new team, the Clippers.
Pierce grew up in Los Angeles and won a title with Rivers in Boston in 2008, so that lure certainly plays against the Wizards. But Rivers took a shot at Pierce last season and passed on him to give a mid-level exception deal to Spencer Hawes, who hardly saw the court last season and was traded to the Hornets earlier this week as part of the Lance Stephenson deal.
ESPN reported the Clippers are considering Pierce with a mid-level exception again this offseason.
Pierce presumably has a better shot at a title in his 18th season with Los Angeles, which was the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference last season. He could provide depth as an outside shooter for a Clippers offence that shipped guard Matt Barnes to Charlotte alongside Hawes.
